About

The Lali drum has a unique sound that, to the best of our knowledge, is yet to be sampled in this detail. Almost every island nation in French Polynesia and Micronesia has a log drum of some sort, not to mention Africa, but the Lali drum is unique to Fiji. They were traditionally used in churches and at ceremonies, especially as a call to gather at the center of a village, as the sound could travel throughout villages and into the mountains. Fiji is an amazing place with a unique culture, and we’re excited to be able to share a part of that with you.

Contents

Four individual lali drums were sampled, each played with their own pair of matched wooden beaters. We sampled four different articulations for each lali, at up to 3 dynamic layers and 4 round robin variations.

Articulations include:

  • Hits
  • Flams
  • Rim hits
  • Rolls

All four lalis are playable from within the one patch, PLUS a bonus set of ensemble samples made up of premixed samples from the individual lalis.
